Citizen Alert Inc. is a Canadian company that provides official communication apps for municipalities: TOWNApp in North America and MuniciApp in Europe. Municipalities use our platform to publish updates, service notices, and emergency alerts to their residents, and to receive service reports from residents. You can contact us at any time at admin@citizenalert.ca.
Residents do not create an account to use TOWNApp or MuniciApp. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or street address, and the apps work without them. To receive alerts, you simply choose your town in the app.
To deliver notifications, the app registers your device for push notifications with Apple or Google and records the town you have selected, so that your town's alerts reach your device. We also process basic technical information needed to operate the service reliably, such as delivery and open confirmations. This information relates to a device, not to a named person, and we use it to run the service and to report aggregate statistics, for example how many devices in a town receive alerts. We do not build profiles of individuals, we do not sell data, and we do not show advertising.
If you use the app to report an issue to your municipality, such as a broken street light or a pothole, the content of your report, including any photo and description you attach, is delivered to your municipality so they can act on it. Send only the information you are comfortable sharing with your town office.
If you fill in a form on citizenalert.ca, for example to book a demo or sign up a municipality, we receive the details you enter, such as your name, work email, and municipality, and we use them only to respond to you and provide the service. These messages are delivered to our administrative mailbox and are not shared with anyone else.
Our website and dashboards are hosted in Canada. Push notifications are delivered through Apple and Google notification services, which is how notifications work on every mobile platform. For MuniciApp in Europe, we operate the service consistent with the requirements of the GDPR, and the minimal, account free design of the app means very little data exists in the first place.
You can stop receiving alerts at any time by turning off notifications for the app in your device settings or by deleting the app. Deleting the app ends the delivery of alerts to your device. If you have any question about information relating to your device or a report you submitted, contact us at admin@citizenalert.ca and we will help.
Staff at client municipalities have dashboard accounts with a work email address and login credentials, used solely to operate the service for their municipality.
If we change this policy, we will post the updated version on this page with a new date. Questions are always welcome at admin@citizenalert.ca.
